COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Employment and Labour Relations Law requires students to complete a total of 100 credit points, with subject choices structured to support different academic and professional backgrounds. Principles of Employment Law is a compulsory subject for students who do not hold a law degree from a common law jurisdiction, and it is strongly recommended that this foundational subject be completed early in the course, especially for those who have not previously studied an equivalent area or who have not done so recently. Students without a law degree from a common law system must complete Fundamentals of the Common Law and Principles of Employment Law, along with at least 37.5 credit points from the list of Employment and Labour Relations Law subjects. Their remaining subjects may be selected from both the Employment and Labour Relations Law subjects and the broader list of approved subjects. Students who do have a law degree from a common law jurisdiction must complete at least 50 credit points from Employment and Labour Relations Law subjects, with additional subjects chosen from either the Employment and Labour Relations Law list or the Other subjects list, noting that Fundamentals of the Common Law is excluded for these students. The program is structured to accommodate working professionals, with subjects offered from February to December in intensive formats that are typically delivered over five days, or in weekly classes of two hours during the semester. Students may study online, on campus, or in hybrid modes, with online delivery incorporating pre-recorded lectures, live sessions, discussion forums and other interactive learning resources. Full-time students undertake 50 credit points per semester for an expected course duration of one year, while part-time domestic students complete 25 credit points per semester and normally take two years to finish, with the option to reduce their load to 12.5 credit points per half-year period.
