COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Criminology offers a flexible and comprehensive program structure designed to accommodate students from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds. The degree is available in three entry pathways depending on prior study and experience, allowing students to tailor their progression through the program to their individual circumstances and goals. The 200-point program, typically completed over two years full time, is the most popular option for students entering directly from an undergraduate degree with no previous experience required. It consists of core, foundation, compulsory and elective components, with students able to choose between completing all coursework or combining electives with a minor thesis. The 150-point program, which can be completed in one and a half years full time, is suited to applicants who have already completed undergraduate study in a related discipline. This option contains compulsory subjects and extensive opportunities for elective study, with the option of undertaking a minor thesis to engage in independent supervised research. The 100-point program, designed for graduates with honours qualifications or at least two years of relevant professional experience, can be completed in one year full time and offers a balance of compulsory learning and elective flexibility, including the choice to complete a major research project through the thesis stream. Across all entry points, students must complete a capstone requirement, selecting from a range of coursework-based or thesis-based capstone streams that allow them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts or pursue deeper academic research. This flexible and structured approach enables students to shape their studies around areas of interest such as justice reform, policing, sentencing, crime prevention and international criminal justice, while building advanced analytical skills suitable for careers across government, policy, law, research agencies and community or international organisations.
