COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing is a professionally oriented program that offers both a 200-point (two-year full-time) and a 150-point (1.5-year full-time) option, depending on the student’s academic background. It is designed to equip graduates with advanced skills across the creative and commercial dimensions of writing, editing, and publishing. The curriculum is structured to provide a strong foundation in key theoretical and practical areas while allowing students to pursue specialised interests through elective and capstone components.In the 200-point program, students begin with 50 points of compulsory subjects and 50 points of foundation subjects, all to be completed within the first 100 points. These subjects introduce the core principles and industry knowledge that underpin creative writing and publishing practices. The second half of the program includes a minimum of 50 points (and up to 62.5 points) in core subjects that deepen expertise in specific fields such as editing or narrative writing. Students must also complete elective subjects worth between 37.5 and 50 points, including at least one subject (12.5 points) each from the Creative Writing and Publishing and Editing electives lists. The program culminates in a substantial capstone project or thesis worth at least 50 points, completed over two consecutive semesters. This capstone may be structured as either two minor thesis subjects with an accompanying research subject or as two project-based subjects, offering flexibility in academic or practice-led outcomes.The 150-point program follows a similar format but excludes foundation subjects. It requires the same 50 points of compulsory subjects and includes core and elective subjects within the remaining credit limits. Regardless of entry path, all students must complete the capstone component. This ensures they graduate with practical experience and critical insight, prepared for careers in publishing, editing, professional writing, and content development.
