COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Commercial Law (MCommrclLaw) is a flexible and specialized program designed for lawyers and professionals aiming to deepen their understanding of commercial law in both domestic and international contexts. The degree requires students to complete 100 credit points in total. Those without a law degree from a common law jurisdiction must take the subject Fundamentals of the Common Law, along with 87.5 credit points from the approved subject list. Students with a law degree from a common law background must complete 87.5 credit points from the prescribed commercial law subjects and may select an additional 12.5 credit points from subjects offered in the Master of Laws program, excluding the Fundamentals of the Common Law and the Minor Thesis. The curriculum allows students to choose from a broad range of areas including finance, competition law, dispute resolution, tax, intellectual property, construction, energy and resources, and other key private law topics. The program is structured to accommodate working professionals, with subjects offered from February to December. Most are delivered intensively over five days, while others are taught weekly during the semester. Delivery formats are flexible, with options for online, on-campus, or hybrid learning. Online subjects feature pre-recorded lectures, live sessions, and interactive discussion boards, while on-campus classes are conducted in an engaging seminar style at the Law Building in Melbourne. Full-time students typically complete the degree in one year by enrolling in 50 credit points per semester, while part-time students finish over two years with 25 credit points per semester. Students not enrolled in any given semester must apply for a formal leave of absence. The program’s flexibility, combined with its comprehensive subject offerings, makes it ideal for those seeking advanced knowledge and skills in commercial law tailored to their career goals.
