COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Civil Engineering is a 2–3 year full-time program that prepares students to design and manage infrastructure that supports sustainable and resilient cities. The course pathway depends on prior study, with students from non-engineering backgrounds completing foundation subjects in their first year, while those who have studied the Civil Systems major with the required mathematics and science may receive credit and commence directly in second year. In the later years of study, students develop advanced expertise across key civil engineering fields including structural, geotechnical, hydraulic and transportation engineering, while exploring their application in areas such as ports, harbours, energy infrastructure and sustainable development. The program also focuses strongly on environmental protection, renewable energy, resource conservation and the integration of sustainability principles into engineering design. Throughout the degree, students complete industry, design or research projects to build practical skills, professional capability and workplace readiness. To support individual career pathways, students can choose from seven specialisations—Business, Energy, Geotechnical, Project Management, Structural, Transport and Water Resources—or continue without specialising. These specialisations enable students to deepen their understanding in areas such as renewable energy technologies, transport infrastructure, project leadership, advanced structural systems, sustainable water systems and business strategy for engineering enterprises. Overall, the program combines theoretical knowledge, hands-on learning and industry engagement to prepare graduates for professional engineering practice and leadership roles within diverse civil and environmental engineering sectors.
