The Master of Chemical Engineering is a flexible two–to–three-year full-time program, with part-time options available, depending on a student’s previous academic background. The course begins with foundation engineering subjects in the first year for students who do not have an engineering undergraduate degree. These introductory subjects provide essential grounding in mathematics, science and core engineering concepts. Students who have already completed the Chemical Systems major in their bachelor degree, including the required subjects, may receive credit for these foundation components and commence their studies directly in the second year. During the second and third years, learning becomes discipline specific, focusing on chemical engineering principles applied to the design, simulation and operation of industrial-scale processes used to convert raw and waste materials into valuable products across sectors such as energy, pharmaceuticals, food, water and advanced manufacturing. Students strengthen their analytical and technical expertise through project-based learning and engagement with modern engineering technologies. The course also offers the flexibility to pursue specialised study in Business, Materials and Minerals, or Sustainability and Environment, aligning academic work with professional goals. Each specialisation deepens skills in areas such as economics and finance for engineers, advanced materials processing, or sustainable chemical and biochemical engineering solutions. Throughout the program, students participate in industry-connected experiences including the Creating Innovative Engineering subject, where they work on real-world problems alongside industry mentors, and options to complete dedicated investigative, research or design projects through the Industry Project, Chemical Engineering Research subject or Chemical Engineering Design Project. These opportunities allow students to contribute to professional engineering environments, develop project management and communication skills and build networks that support future employment pathways. By graduation, students are prepared to enter the workforce as professional engineers, capable of leading innovation and addressing global industrial and environmental challenges.
