COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Econometrics is a 200-point program designed to develop advanced analytical and modelling skills that are highly sought after in data-driven decision-making across government, business, and finance. The program structure includes six core subjects totalling 75 points, eight elective subjects totalling 100 points, and a capstone sequence worth 25 points. Across two years of full-time study, students build solid foundations in econometric techniques while applying these methods to real-world problems through industry-focused projects and research tasks. The first year develops essential skills in data handling, forecasting and introductory econometric theory through core subjects such as Data Wrangling and Visualisation, Basic Econometrics, Forecasting in Economics and Business, Econometrics 2, Advanced Data Analysis and Applied Microeconometric Modelling, alongside electives like Economic Analysis and Policy and Behavioural Economics. In the second year, students deepen their technical expertise and professional preparation through advanced electives including Treatment Effects and Program Evaluation, Macroeconometrics, Microeconometrics, Business Practicum and Financial Econometrics. The capstone component, Econometrics Research Report Parts 1 and 2, allows students to apply their skills to an independent, supervised research project that demonstrates competence in advanced quantitative analysis and academic communication. Students also benefit from work-integrated learning opportunities such as participating in consulting-style projects with external organisations. By combining rigorous theoretical training, hands-on experience with leading software and statistical tools, and specialist electives, this degree prepares graduates for professional careers as econometricians, data analysts, quantitative researchers, policy economists, financial modellers and consultants.
