COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Advanced Social Work (Research) is a program that integrates independent research with a small component of coursework to develop advanced knowledge and skills in social work. The degree supports a practice-oriented and theoretical approach, fostering self-directed and lifelong learning. To qualify for the award, students must achieve an average grade of at least H3, equivalent to 65 percent or higher.Students may commence the program at any time between 1 February and 31 October, although starting in January or December is generally not recommended. Enrollment and commencement are subject to prior arrangement with a nominated supervisor, and students holding scholarships should consult the relevant rules to confirm any adjustments to their start date. It is important to liaise with the relevant academic unit before making arrangements for enrolment, travel, or other commitments related to the program.The degree equips students with the ability to conduct high-level social work research, combining theoretical frameworks with applied practice. Graduates are prepared for professional development, leadership roles, and further research in social work or related disciplines. The program provides structured supervision and guidance to ensure the research is aligned with professional and academic standards while allowing flexibility for individual research interests.
