COURSE CURRICULUM

The PhD in Law is primarily a research degree with no formal coursework requirements. Candidates are expected to conduct original research leading to a thesis. The program includes an initial confirmation period where students present their research proposal, typically within the first year. Supervision is provided by at least two academics with expertise in the chosen field. Optional components may include participation in research training workshops, seminars on research methods, ethics, and academic writing. Students can also attend subject-specific seminars offered by the Melbourne Law School. Progress is monitored through annual reviews, and candidates may have opportunities to teach or assist in undergraduate courses. The curriculum focuses on developing advanced research skills, critical analysis, and scholarly writing. There are no set modules; the structure is flexible to suit individual research projects in areas such as international law, human rights, corporate law, or constitutional law.
