COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music (Honours) allows students to tailor their learning according to the specialisation they choose. The Music Performance specialisation focuses on intensive solo and ensemble-based performance, providing opportunities to refine technique and expand musical depth. Students are assessed through public performances, allowing them to demonstrate advanced repertoire and expressive capability.The Composition specialisation develops students' personal compositional voice through projects ranging from small-scale works to full orchestral pieces. The program culminates in a concert presentation of original works, with elective options enabling collaboration with Conservatorium ensembles. Students gain practical experience in shaping their compositions for professional performance contexts.Interactive Composition is designed for students working in commercially driven modes of music creation. It emphasises practice-based major creative projects, which may include live installation events or portfolios of work for film, animation, theatre, advertising, dance, or games. A dissertation accompanies the project, providing an academic framework for research and reflection on creative practice.The Jazz & Improvisation specialisation targets students with prior undergraduate music training, offering a focus on diverse performance modes in jazz and improvisation. The program culminates in a significant project, which may include live performances, recordings, or a portfolio of new creative work, alongside a supporting dissertation.Musicology and Ethnomusicology focus on substantial research projects, requiring students to demonstrate original and independent thinking. Students engage deeply with contemporary scholarship, applying research methodologies to develop professional projects and advanced academic electives that enhance critical and analytical skills.The Tailored Program, currently suspended for 2026, allowed students to design a personalised course of study based on their strengths, interests, and career goals. It integrated academic electives, performance and composition subjects, career preparation, and a capstone project, providing a flexible pathway for those seeking a customised learning experience. This program encouraged the development of both creative and professional skills across a broad range of music disciplines.
