The University of Melbourne, established in 1853, is Australia’s second oldest university and the oldest in Victoria. It is a leading public research university located in Parkville, Melbourne, with additional campuses across Victoria. As a member of Australia’s Group of Eight and other prestigious international networks, it has strong affiliations with research institutes and nine residential colleges. The university has a legacy of notable alumni including four prime ministers and nine Nobel Laureates. In September 2024, Emma Johnston was named the next Vice-Chancellor, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the university’s history.
