COURSE CURRICULUM

To qualify for the award of Master of Science (Astronomy), students must complete a total of 12 core units, equivalent to 150 credit points. The program is structured in stages, allowing students to achieve intermediate qualifications along the way.At the first stage, students complete 4 core units, which entitles them to a Graduate Certificate in Astronomy. This provides foundational knowledge and introduces students to advanced concepts, research methods, and observational techniques in the field.The next stage involves completing an additional 4 core units, which together with the first 4 units, leads to the award of a Graduate Diploma. This stage builds on the initial foundation, focusing on more specialised topics, advanced data analysis, and independent research skills.Finally, students complete the last 4 core units, which, combined with the preceding 8 units, results in the full Master of Science (Astronomy) award. This final stage emphasizes in-depth research, professional-level scientific communication, and practical application of astronomy knowledge. Through this structured progression, students systematically develop advanced expertise, preparing them for professional practice, research careers, or further doctoral study in astronomy and related scientific fields.
