COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Certificate of Science (Astronomy) provides students with a foundational understanding of the universe through a combination of core and elective units. Core units include Exploring Stars and the Milky Way, Exploring the Solar System, and Galaxies and their Place in the Universe, each worth 12.5 credit points, which cover essential knowledge of stellar systems, planetary science, and cosmic structures. Elective units allow students to specialise further, with options such as Astrobiology and the Origins of Life, which examines the scientific understanding of life beyond Earth, and Studies in Space Exploration, focusing on human and robotic exploration of space. This structure ensures that graduates gain both a comprehensive grasp of contemporary astronomy and the flexibility to pursue areas of personal or professional interest. Upon completion, students are prepared for careers in teaching, work at observatories, science centres, museums, or as a stepping stone toward further research and higher qualifications in astronomy.
