COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science provides a strong foundation in the principles and practices of modern science, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on learning experiences. In the first semester, students engage with core scientific concepts through units such as Concepts of Biology, where they explore the fundamental processes of life, and choose between Chemistry 1 or Introduction to Chemistry to gain a solid understanding of chemical principles. Physics is also introduced through units like Energy and Motion or Introduction to Physics, allowing students to grasp the laws governing physical systems. Mathematics forms a key component of the curriculum, with students selecting from Preliminary Mathematics, Calculus and Applications, or Foundations of Statistics to develop essential quantitative skills for scientific analysis. These early units ensure that students acquire the analytical, computational, and problem-solving abilities necessary for advanced study. In the second semester, the focus broadens to include Sustainability Challenges in Science, which encourages students to examine global scientific issues such as climate change, resource management, and technological impacts on society. Students can also tailor their study by selecting electives that align with their interests and career goals, as well as further mathematics units such as Essential Mathematics, Calculus and Applications, or Linear Algebra and Applications to strengthen their numeracy and modeling skills. Throughout the degree, experiential learning is emphasised, with students applying knowledge in laboratory settings, collaborative projects, and real-world scenarios. This integrated approach equips graduates with both technical competence and critical thinking skills, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in research, industry, healthcare, environmental science, and technology, as well as for continued postgraduate study in specialised scientific fields.
