COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Health Science is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed for a successful career in the dynamic health industry. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in essential health science concepts through core units such as Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Health Sciences, Digital Health Foundations, and Foundations of Statistics. These units provide the fundamental understanding required to pursue more advanced study and practical applications in later years. In the second semester, students continue to expand their knowledge with units like Brain and Behaviour, Musculoskeletal Anatomy, and introductory chemistry courses, allowing them to explore both biological and chemical aspects of health. As students progress, major units such as Introduction to Biochemistry, Physiology in Medical and Health Sciences, Infections and Immunology, Genes and Genomics, and Body Function and Structure for Health Science provide deeper scientific insight and practical skills relevant to the healthcare sector. The program also incorporates professional placements, either a major 12-month placement or a minor six-month placement, giving students the opportunity to apply their learning in real-world health settings. These placements foster industry connections, practical experience, and professional development. Students further enhance their research capabilities and problem-solving skills through units such as Research Methods for Health Science and the Health Sciences Project. Elective units allow for a personalized learning experience, enabling students to tailor their studies according to their career goals and interests. By combining rigorous academic training, hands-on laboratory experience, and professional placements, the Bachelor of Health Science prepares graduates to enter the workforce as career-ready professionals or to continue with specialised postgraduate studies.
