COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Games and Interactivity is designed for students who are passionate about exploring the creative, cultural, and technical aspects of game design and development. This course provides an in-depth understanding of the role of games in contemporary society and their growth as a major cultural industry. Across the degree, students engage in both theoretical and practical studies that focus on analog and digital games, combining research, storytelling, and interactive design in a hands-on learning environment. In the first year, students are introduced to core concepts in sound design, 3D modelling, and game studies, gaining foundational skills that underpin modern game production. The second year builds upon these foundations through advanced studies in production, prototyping, and writing for interactive narratives, where students begin developing their own game projects in a studio-based setting. The final year focuses on professional and creative development, allowing students to collaborate on major games and interactivity projects while exploring topics such as experimental game design, user-centred design, and the psychology of player behaviour and motivation.Throughout the course, students work in Swinburne’s industry-standard facilities, using professional software and hardware to simulate real-world production environments. They have the opportunity to collaborate with peers from related disciplines such as animation, media, and digital design, enhancing their teamwork and communication skills. The inclusion of elective units allows students to tailor their studies according to their interests, whether in programming, visual design, storytelling, or interactive media. Graduates emerge with a strong creative portfolio and practical experience that prepare them for diverse careers in the games industry, including roles such as game designer, level designer, interactive media developer, producer, or researcher. With a balance of creativity, critical thinking, and technical expertise, the Bachelor of Games and Interactivity equips students to make meaningful contributions to the evolving world of interactive entertainment.
