COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Film and Television provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the dynamic film, television, and digital media industries. In the first year, students establish a solid foundation through core units such as Scriptwriting and Directing: Short Narrative Film, Production Techniques, Postproduction and Editing, and Screen Literacy and Contemporary Cinema. These units introduce essential filmmaking concepts, technical skills, and critical analysis, while hands-on projects allow students to apply theory to practice. In the second year, students advance their expertise with major units such as Scriptwriting and Directing: Short Film Production, Cinematography and Lighting for Film Production, and The Australian Screen. These courses deepen technical proficiency, storytelling ability, and understanding of national cinematic contexts, while elective units provide flexibility to explore areas of personal interest. The third year emphasizes professional-level production experience through major projects in screenwriting, directing, and collaborative screen development, alongside specialized studies in Hollywood cinema and short-form screen production. Students engage in complex, industry-standard projects, integrating pre-production, production, and post-production processes. In the final year, the focus is on capstone projects including Major Project: Production and Major Project: Post-Production and Distribution, where students create high-quality media outputs suitable for professional portfolios. Additional units in research methods and screen writing refine critical thinking, research skills, and creative development. The program combines technical training, creative development, and research skills, preparing students to produce, direct, and manage professional-level film and television projects. With access to state-of-the-art equipment and practical learning opportunities, graduates leave with the skills, experience, and confidence to work across film, television, broadcast media, and digital content industries, while also being equipped for further study in postgraduate programs. By integrating theory, practice, and professional experience, this degree ensures students are ready to meet the challenges of a fast-evolving media landscape.
