COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design (Interior Architecture) (Honours) for Semester 1, 2026, provides a structured progression of core, major, and honours units designed to develop both practical and theoretical expertise in interior architecture. In the first year, students build foundational skills through units such as Introductory Design Studio (DDD10006), Construction 1: Building Systems and Materials (DIA10001), Interior Architecture Communication (DIA10005), and Twentieth Century Design (DDD10001). In the second semester, they focus on spatial design and documentation through Interior Architecture Studio 1 – Space, Form & Human Occupation (DIA10006), History of Interior Architecture (DIA10004), and Interior Architecture Digital Documentation 1 (DIA20003), along with elective options.In the second year, students advance their design, construction, and research skills through Interior Architecture Studio 2: Place, Space and Human Experience (DIA20004), Construction 2: Building Services and Documentation Packages (DIA20001), and later, Contemporary Design Issues (DDD20004), Interior Architecture Digital Documentation 2 (DIA30002), and Interior Architecture Studio 3: Design Exploration (DIA20005). The curriculum continues to integrate electives for tailored learning.The third year emphasizes sustainability, professional development, and entrepreneurship through Interior Architecture Studio 4 – Sustainability (DIA30004), Philosophy of Interior Architecture (DIA30005), Interior Architecture Entrepreneurship and Professional Development (DIA30003), and Construction 3: Sustainability (DIA30001), alongside elective units.In the honours year, students choose between the Design Factory Melbourne Honours Stream and the Interior Architecture Honours Stream. Both streams focus on applied innovation, design research, capstone projects, project management, and professional attributes, with key units including Studio 1: Methods for Design Research (DDD40001), Applied Innovation Studios (DDD60030, DDD70031), Capstone: Interior Architecture Practice 1 and 2 (DIA40001, DIA40002), and Project Management and Practice (DDD30038).This progression ensures students develop comprehensive skills in design thinking, construction, technology, and professional practice, culminating in advanced research and capstone projects that prepare graduates for leadership and innovation in interior architecture.
