The Bachelor of Design (Fashion) at Swinburne University provides a structured pathway that combines creative, technical, and industry-focused learning to prepare students for careers in the dynamic fashion sector. In the first year, students build foundational skills through core units such as Fashion Design Practice 1: Techniques and Prototyping, Product Visualisation 1: Hand Sketching, Introductory Design Studio, and Twentieth Century Design. In the second semester, learners expand their knowledge with Textile and Material Inspiration, Fashion Communication and Expression, and Contemporary Design Issues, alongside elective options that allow early customization of the degree.In the second year, students develop advanced technical and conceptual skills with units like Fashion Design Practice 2: Pattern and Garment Construction, Global Fashion Context and Culture, Emerging Technologies in Fashion & Textile Design, and Sustainable Fashion Design Studio. These units emphasize practical garment construction, digital innovation, sustainable practices, and awareness of global fashion trends, while electives provide flexibility for personalized learning paths.The final year focuses on professional and industry-relevant practice. Students refine their expertise in Wearable Technology Design Studio, Professional Fashion Practice, and Fashion Branding & Management, culminating in the Fashion Design Capstone, a 25-credit major project that integrates technical proficiency, creative design, and industry knowledge.This progression ensures that graduates possess a strong foundation in fashion design principles, hands-on garment construction skills, and experience with emerging technologies and sustainable practices.
