COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Data Science provides a structured pathway for students to develop expertise in programming, data management, and analytical techniques, preparing them for careers in data-driven industries. In the first semester, students are introduced to foundational programming skills, technology in Indigenous contexts, networking and switching, and core data science principles. These units build a strong base in computational thinking, problem-solving, and the practical application of data analysis tools. In the second semester, students advance their technical knowledge with computer systems, web technology projects, object-oriented programming, and elective options that allow for early specialisation or exploration of emerging technologies.As students progress, the curriculum emphasises the design and implementation of data solutions. In the third semester, major projects like database design reinforce students’ abilities to structure, manage, and query data efficiently. Electives and additional project-based units enable students to tailor their learning to specific interests within data science. The subsequent semester introduces cloud computing architecture, big data architecture and applications, and computing technology innovation projects, giving students hands-on experience with large-scale data processing, storage solutions, and emerging technologies in real-world contexts.In the final year, students focus on advanced computing projects, data visualisation, software architecture, and deployment. These units consolidate technical skills and strategic thinking, while elective units provide opportunities to explore areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, or business analytics. Core capstone projects in both semesters allow students to apply their cumulative learning to complex, integrative challenges, ensuring readiness for professional roles.Graduates of the program are well-equipped to pursue careers as data scientists, analysts, business intelligence specialists, or roles in sectors such as finance, healthcare, government, and technology.
