COURSE CURRICULUM
The indicative sequence for the Bachelor of Computer Science for Semester 1, 2026 provides a structured pathway for students to gain foundational knowledge, specialised skills, and practical experience in computing and software development. Students are advised to use the study plan template available via their student portal in conjunction with their course planner to organise their studies, noting that sequences may vary depending on advanced standing or exemptions, and unit offerings may change. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with core units such as Computer Systems, Introduction to Programming, Web Technology Project, and Technology in an Indigenous Context Project, alongside Object Oriented Programming, Networks and Switching, and Cloud Computing Architecture. These units introduce essential programming, networking, and computing concepts, while integrating practical, project-based learning. In the second year, students deepen their technical knowledge with major units such as Database Design Project and Data Structures and Patterns, alongside electives that allow for personalisation and exploration of specialised areas. The second semester focuses on Software Testing and Reliability and the Computing Technology Innovation Project, further developing analytical and problem-solving skills and providing hands-on experience in creating and testing software solutions.A key feature of the program is the professional placement component, which can be undertaken as a 12-month major placement or a six-month minor placement. Students complete Work Experience in Industry A and B, paired with Integrated Professional Placement A and B, gaining exposure to real-world ICT environments, applying theoretical knowledge, and developing workplace competencies and professional networks. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced projects and major units, including Computing Technology Project A and B, Interface Design and Development, Software Architectures and Design, and Concurrent Programming. These capstone experiences allow students to integrate programming, software development, and system design skills in practical applications, ensuring they graduate with the expertise, experience, and confidence required for careers in software development, IT consulting, and other technology-driven industries.
