COURSE CURRICULUM

The indicative sequence for the Bachelor of Information Technology for Semester 1, 2026 provides a structured pathway for students to develop foundational knowledge, specialised skills, and professional experience in computing and software development. Students are advised to use the study plan template available via their student portal alongside their course planner to organise their studies effectively, keeping in mind that the sequence may vary depending on advanced standing or exemptions, and that unit offerings may change over time. In the first year, students complete core units including Computer Systems, Introduction to Programming, Web Technology Project, and an elective in Semester 1, followed by Technology in an Indigenous Context Project, Object Oriented Programming, Networks and Switching, and a major unit in Cloud Computing Architecture in Semester 2. These units build a strong foundation in programming, system design, networking, and cloud technologies.In the second year, students progress into major-focused units such as Database Design Project, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Systems, and Computing Technology Innovation Project, alongside electives. These units provide advanced technical knowledge in AI, databases, and innovative computing technologies while allowing students to apply their skills in practical projects.The program also includes professional placement opportunities to provide real-world experience. Students may choose a major 12-month placement, which includes Work Experience in Industry A and B alongside Integrated Professional Placement A and B in Information and Communication Technology, or a minor six-month placement covering Work Experience in Industry A and Integrated Professional Placement A. These placements allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in professional environments, develop technical and professional skills, and build industry networks.In the third year, students complete advanced units such as Computing Technology Project A and B, Applied Machine Learning, Software Architectures and Design, and Artificial Intelligence Engineering, alongside electives. This combination of core, major, and elective units, together with professional placements, ensures that graduates acquire the knowledge, practical experience, and specialised skills required to excel in software development, artificial intelligence, and computing technology fields, preparing them for a career at the forefront of the digital and technological revolution.
