COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business at Swinburne University provides a flexible and industry-focused pathway for students to develop comprehensive business knowledge and practical skills. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation through core units including Financial Information for Decision Making, Economics for Business Decision Making, Business Digitalisation, and Contemporary Management Principles. In the second semester, students continue to build essential competencies with units such as Business for Sustainability, Social Change and Impact, Creative Mindset and Entrepreneurship, Financial Statistics, and Marketing and the Consumer Experience, allowing them to integrate ethical, creative, and analytical approaches to business challenges.In the second year, students can focus on specialized areas such as Human Resource Practices and the Dynamics of Diversity in Organisations, while also choosing electives to tailor their learning. The following semester includes advanced topics like Law of Employment and Organisational Behaviour, providing a strong understanding of workplace dynamics, legal frameworks, and management principles. A major highlight of the program is the professional placement, available as either a 12-month major or a 6-month minor. These placements, including Work Experience in Industry and Integrated Professional Placement units, provide students with hands-on experience, industry exposure, and opportunities to apply classroom learning in real business environments.In the final year, students deepen their expertise in areas such as Managing Workplace Relations, Digital Management and the Future of Work, Human Resource Analytics, and the Business Consulting Project, supplemented by electives that allow further specialization. This structure ensures students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, equipping them to address complex business challenges, leverage data and technology, and contribute meaningfully to organizational success. Graduates are well-prepared for careers across business management, human resources, consulting, and other professional roles, with the skills and insights needed to make a positive impact in modern workplaces.
