COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to enter the vital and growing healthcare sector. The course combines a strong foundation in core biomedical concepts with hands-on, technology-driven learning experiences. In the first year, students begin with units such as Anatomy and Physiology, Digital Health Foundations, Foundations of Statistics, and Introduction to Biomedical Science, providing a comprehensive introduction to the field. In the second semester, students focus on Musculoskeletal Anatomy and select one chemistry unit from either Chemistry 1 or Introduction to Chemistry, alongside elective options. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced studies in Research Methods for Health Science, Epidemiology, Introduction to Biochemistry, and Physiology in Medical and Health Sciences, complemented by Health and Disease Across the Life Course and Infections and Immunology in Health Sciences. Throughout the degree, students have the opportunity to choose elective units to tailor their learning to their specific interests. Professional placement is a key feature of the program, allowing students to gain real-world experience and develop industry-ready skills. Students can undertake a major placement over 12 months, including work experience and integrated professional placement units, or opt for a shorter six-month placement, depending on their goals and availability. In the final year, students complete advanced major units such as Genes and Genomics, Body Function and Structure for Health Science, and Pathophysiology, along with the Biomedical Science Project, which enables them to apply their knowledge to practical research. Elective units continue to provide flexibility for students to focus on areas of particular interest. Graduates of this program are well-prepared for careers in biomedical science and related health professions, or for further postgraduate study in fields such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and medicine. The course combines rigorous academic study with immersive, technology-driven learning and practical industry experience, ensuring students graduate as competent, career-ready biomedical professionals.
