COURSE CURRICULUM

The indicative sequence for Semester 1, 2026, provides a structured guide for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts, helping them plan their studies using the study plan template available via the student portal in conjunction with their course planner. The sequence may vary depending on advanced standing, exemptions, or other factors, and while unit information is accurate at the time of publication, changes may occur.In the first year, Semester 1 includes the core unit Technology and Society (ART10002), which examines the relationship between technological developments and their impact on social structures and everyday life. The major unit Popular Culture, Social Change and Technology (SOC10014) explores the ways media, cultural trends, and technological innovation influence society, alongside two elective units to broaden students’ academic experience. Semester 2 includes the major unit Introduction to Ethics (PHI10008), which develops critical reasoning and moral philosophy skills, and three elective units, allowing students to explore topics of personal interest and cultivate interdisciplinary knowledge.In the second year, Semester 1 offers the core unit Skills and Strategies for Social Change (ART20003), alongside the major units Digital Justice (POL20019) and Technology, Intimacy and Family Life (SOC20003), focusing on digital society, ethical considerations, and social dynamics. Semester 2 includes Winners and Losers: The Politics and Ethics of Work (POL20018) and three elective units, encouraging students to critically examine contemporary social, political, and ethical issues.The program also includes professional placements, giving students the opportunity to gain practical experience. Students may undertake a major professional placement spanning 12 months, including Work Experience in Industry A and B (WEI20001, WEI20002) and Integrated Professional Placements (SOC20018, SOC20019), or a minor six-month placement with Work Experience in Industry A and Integrated Professional Placement A (SOC20018).In the third year, Semester 1 includes the core unit Changemakers in Action (ART30004) and the major units Thinking and Intelligence: Critical, Creative, Artificial (PHI30011) and Planet B: Space and Extra-Terrestrial Ethics (PHI30012), fostering creativity, critical thinking, and ethical reasoning.
