COURSE CURRICULUM

The Secondary Specialisation within the Master of Teaching provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare graduates for successful careers as secondary school teachers. The program develops advanced teaching knowledge, professional skills, and practical capabilities required to support the educational needs of adolescent learners across diverse secondary school environments. Students begin by exploring foundational concepts through units such as Education and Practice: Ways of Teaching and Learning, Teaching and Learning Literacy and Numeracy in Context, and Classroom Management, building essential skills in pedagogy, curriculum planning, communication, and effective classroom practice. The course also focuses on inclusive education through units such as Teaching Students from Diverse Backgrounds, Inclusive and Special Education, and Education and Indigenous Australians, enabling future teachers to create supportive and culturally responsive learning environments. Students deepen their expertise in their chosen teaching areas through Advanced Secondary Curriculum and Pedagogy units while developing knowledge of digital learning, educational research, and innovative teaching approaches. Professional Experience units provide valuable opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in real classroom settings, refine teaching strategies, and develop professional confidence. Through Teachers as Researchers units, students learn to investigate educational practices and use evidence-based approaches to improve student outcomes.
