COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary Specialisation within the Master of Teaching provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional capabilities required to become effective primary school educators for kindergarten to Year 6 students. The program develops a strong foundation in teaching and learning practices through units such as Education and Practice: Ways of Teaching and Learning, Classroom Management, and Brain and Learner: Navigating Processes and Contexts, enabling students to understand educational theories, student development, and effective classroom strategies. Students gain specialised knowledge across key learning areas including Mathematics, English, Science and Technology, Human Society and its Environments, Creative Arts, and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, preparing them to design engaging and meaningful learning experiences. Professional Experience units provide opportunities for students to apply their knowledge in real classroom environments, develop teaching confidence, and refine their professional practice. The course also emphasises contemporary educational approaches through studies in digital technologies, inclusive and special education, Indigenous Australian perspectives, and evidence-based literacy and numeracy practices. Through research-informed learning and practical experience, students develop the ability to support diverse learners, foster positive classroom environments, and promote student achievement. Graduates are prepared to become reflective, innovative, and inclusive primary educators who can make a lasting impact on children’s academic, social, and personal development.
