The Exercise Science program is designed to prepare students for professional roles in health, fitness, and sports performance through a combination of scientific knowledge, practical skills, and applied learning experiences. In the first year, students gain a strong foundation in health science with Introduction to Science for Health Professions (HLTH1001) and Physical Activity for Health (HLTH1008), which explore the role of physical activity in promoting wellbeing. Introductory Anatomy and Physiology (HBIO1009) and Integrated Anatomy and Physiology (HBIO1010) build a detailed understanding of body systems, while Growth and Development (HBIO1006) examines physiological changes across the lifespan. Nutrition for Health and Physical Activity (NUTR1001) links diet to exercise performance, and Musculoskeletal Functional Anatomy (HBIO2001) focuses on movement and structure of the body. Motor Control (HBIO2002) and Introductory Biomechanics (SCIN2002) analyze how movement is produced and controlled. Motor Learning for Coaching (HLTH2001) and Exercise and Sport Assessment (HLTH2003) focus on skill development and performance evaluation. Strength and conditioning principles are introduced through Fundamentals of Strength and Conditioning (SPRT2001), while Exercise and Sport Psychology (PSYC2003) explores the mental aspects of performance. Exercise Prescription and Delivery (HLTH2004) and Foundations of Evidence for Health Science Practitioners (STAT2001) provide students with practical skills in exercise programming and evidence-based practice. In the third year, students engage in professional and advanced training. Work Integrated Learning in Exercise Science (SPRT3001) offers valuable industry experience, while Applied Skill Acquisition (HLTH3006) and Advanced Strength and Conditioning (HLTH3007) refine high-level performance techniques. Applied Biomechanics (SCIN3001) integrates movement analysis with real-world applications. Students also study Small Business and Entrepreneurship for Allied Health, Fitness and Sport (HLTH1003), preparing them for self-employment or leadership roles.
