COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environment Specialisation within the Bachelor of Science provides students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to understand, manage, and protect natural environments through scientific research and sustainable resource management. The program begins with foundational studies in earth systems, ecosystem management, biology, chemistry, scientific communication, data analysis, and Indigenous knowledge, enabling students to develop a broad understanding of environmental science and ecological processes. In the second year, students build expertise in environmental chemistry, ecology, quantitative research methods, landscape processes, geographic information systems (GIS), wildlife conservation, aquatic pollution, catchment management, and professional practice. The final year focuses on advanced topics including waste management and resource recovery, environmental sustainability economics, biogeochemistry, and protected area management, supported by flexible option units that allow students to tailor their learning to specific career interests. Throughout the program, students gain valuable practical experience through laboratory work, field studies, research projects, and environmental analysis, strengthening their analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills. Graduates are prepared for careers as environmental scientists, conservation officers, GIS analysts, sustainability consultants, natural resource managers, environmental policy advisors, and researchers working in government agencies, environmental consultancies, research organisations, and non-government organisations committed to protecting ecosystems and promoting sustainable environmental management.
