COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy program is structured to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in physiotherapy theory, practice, and clinical skills over four years. In the first year, students focus on introductory concepts and foundational knowledge. Core units include Introduction to Physiotherapy Practice and Foundational Physiotherapy Practice, which provide essential skills in assessment, treatment, and professional conduct. Complementing these are courses in anatomy, biomechanics, growth and development, and health psychology, including Introductory Anatomy and Physiology, Regional Anatomy and Biomechanics, and Introducing Health Psychology. Students also study interprofessional practice and Indigenous health perspectives through Foundations of Interprofessional Health Practice and Health and Indigenous Australian Peoples, ensuring a broad understanding of patient care within diverse contexts.In the second year, the program advances into specialised physiotherapy areas and applied practice. Units such as Physiotherapy Practice: Musculoskeletal 1 and 2, Cardiorespiratory 1, and Neurological 1 allow students to develop clinical skills across different patient populations. Complementary units in motor control, human pathophysiology, and clinical neuroscience provide the theoretical knowledge required to underpin evidence-based practice. The Foundations of Evidence for Health Science Practitioners unit equips students with research and analytical skills to support clinical decision-making.The third year focuses on advanced practice and integration of knowledge. Students study Physiotherapy Practice across musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, and neurological areas, along with Interprofessional Health Practice, Introductory Pharmacology, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship for Allied Health. Work Integrated Learning Foundations introduces students to integrated physiotherapy practice, preparing them for professional placements.The fourth year is primarily dedicated to extensive professional practice placements, providing hands-on clinical experience through four 24-credit units. These placements allow students to consolidate their skills, gain real-world experience, and demonstrate competence in professional physiotherapy practice. Overall, the program combines rigorous academic study, practical skill development, and immersive clinical placements, preparing graduates to enter the physiotherapy profession as competent, confident, and ethical practitioners.
