COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Nursing program provides students with a structured and comprehensive pathway to become competent, professional nurses equipped to work in a variety of healthcare settings. The program begins with foundational units in the first year, including The Reflective Learner and Health Science Scholar, Foundations of Interprofessional Health Practice, Introductory Anatomy and Physiology, Fundamentals of Nursing Practice, Foundations of Clinical Practice, and Understanding Wellbeing and Mental Health. These courses develop essential clinical knowledge, patient care skills, and an understanding of interdisciplinary healthcare practice, while also introducing students to health issues affecting Indigenous Australian communities. Students also gain early exposure to practical nursing skills through Foundations of Health Assessment. In the second year, the program builds on this foundation with more specialised courses, such as Introductory Pharmacology, Foundations of Health and Health Care Systems, Positive Approaches to Chronic Health and Disability, Partnering with Older People in Healthcare, Introduction to Nursing Research, Nursing Practices 1, Mental Health Nursing, and Building Healthy Communities through Impactful Partnerships. These units integrate theory with practice, enhancing students’ ability to manage complex healthcare situations, provide culturally responsive care, and engage in evidence-based practice. In the third year, students focus on advanced nursing practice and leadership skills through Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing, Nursing Practices 2 and 3, The Nurse as a Leader, Paediatric Health: Conception to Adolescence, and Transition to Practice, alongside Interprofessional Health Practice. This final year emphasises critical thinking, decision-making, and professional responsibility, preparing students for clinical leadership roles. Throughout the program, students undertake substantial practical experiences, integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical settings. Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and ethical grounding required to provide high-quality patient care, adapt to evolving healthcare environments, and meet the professional standards of nursing practice both in Australia and internationally.
