COURSE CURRICULUM

The Laws program is structured to provide students with a thorough understanding of legal principles, processes, and specialised areas over three years. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through core units such as Legal Research and Writing and Legal Process, which focus on legal analysis, research methods, and the workings of legal systems. Statutory Interpretation further enhances their ability to understand and apply legislation. Students also have the opportunity to select from option units including Contract Law I, Contract Law II, Criminal Procedure, and Criminal Law, which introduce them to fundamental areas of civil and criminal law. Each unit carries twelve credit points, and students are encouraged to complete these units in the prescribed sequence to build a solid legal foundation.In the second year, the program advances into more specialised and complex areas of law. Units such as Environmental Law, Torts, Constitutional Law, and Corporations Law provide in-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks, civil wrongs, government structures, and business law. Additional option units like Principles of Equity and Property Principles allow students to further explore substantive areas of law, enhancing their analytical and practical understanding. This combination of compulsory and elective courses ensures students gain both breadth and depth in legal knowledge.The third year focuses on practical and professional aspects of law alongside advanced legal theory. Students complete Civil Litigation and Procedure and Evidence to gain practical skills in handling cases and presenting legal arguments. Option units such as Administrative Law, Theories of Law, Private Law Remedies, and Professional Conduct provide further insight into specialised areas, legal reasoning, and ethical responsibilities essential for professional practice. Overall, the program integrates foundational knowledge, specialised study, and practical skills to prepare graduates for competent, ethical, and informed participation in legal professions or further legal study.
