COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program provides students with a comprehensive and structured pathway to become professional engineers accredited by Engineers Australia. The program is built on a solid foundation of core units that cover essential engineering principles, mathematics, physics, materials science, and practical engineering skills. In the first year, students undertake foundational units such as Planning and Delivering Engineering Projects, Engineering Technology and Design, Physics I: Motion, Mechanics and Waves, and Introductory Algebra and Calculus. These units develop analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities, while also introducing students to engineering governance and ethical practice through Indigenous community perspectives. In the second year, students progress to more specialised courses such as Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics, Statics of Solids, Water Cycle Systems, and Built Structure Systems. These units enhance technical competence and introduce students to design, construction, and infrastructure management principles. Professional development is also embedded through units like Career Development and Professional Practice. The third year focuses on advanced applications, including Civil Engineering Systems, Engineering Applications, Integrated Water Cycle Management Systems, Smart Infrastructure and Places, and Computational Analysis. These units build critical thinking, project management, and systems integration skills essential for complex engineering challenges. In the fourth and final year, students undertake the Engineering Professional Practice Thesis and the Engineering Capstone Project, which are substantial project-based units allowing for independent investigation, problem-solving, and practical application of engineering principles in real-world contexts. The program also includes option units to allow tailored specialisation according to student interests. By combining rigorous academic training, hands-on project work, and professional practice, graduates develop the technical knowledge, ethical awareness, and practical experience required to excel in civil or mechanical engineering careers. This structured progression ensures that students are well-prepared to meet professional expectations and to contribute effectively to the engineering industry.
