COURSE CURRICULUM
The osteopathic medicine program is designed to develop skilled, reflective, and evidence-based health professionals through a progressive structure of theoretical and practical learning. In the first year, students build a foundation in health sciences and osteopathic practice. The journey begins with The Reflective Learner and Health Science Scholar (HLTH1004) and Foundations of Interprofessional Health Practice (HLTH1006), introducing reflective learning and teamwork across health disciplines. Students then explore the human body through Introductory Anatomy and Physiology (HBIO1009) and Integrated Anatomy and Physiology (HBIO1010), which provide an essential understanding of body systems. Core osteopathic units such as Osteopathic Manual Therapy 1 (OSTP1001) and Osteopathic Manual Therapy 2 (OSTP2004) develop manual skills, while Biochemistry (BIOL2007) and Osteopathic Science I (OSTP2001) build knowledge of the body’s biochemical and structural foundations. In the second year, the program advances to Osteopathic Science II (OSTP2002) and Osteopathic Manual Therapy 3 (OSTP2005), deepening diagnostic and treatment skills. Human Pathophysiology (HBIO2005) and Clinical Neuroscience and Pain Studies (HBIO2010) explore disease processes and neurological aspects of pain. Health and Indigenous Australian Peoples (INDG2001) encourages cultural awareness and health equity understanding. Additional courses such as Osteopathic Assessment and Diagnosis (OSTP2010), Understanding Wellbeing and Mental Health (HLTH1005), and Foundations of Evidence for Health Science Practitioners (STAT2001) strengthen analytical, mental health, and research competencies. The third year focuses on advanced professional practice and clinical integration. Students study Introductory Pharmacology (PHAR2001), Nutrition for Health and Physical Activity (NUTR1001), and Clinical Reasoning in Osteopathic Medicine (OSTP3003), combining scientific knowledge with patient-centered care. Advanced osteopathic practice units, including Osteopathic Manual Therapy 4 (OSTP3002), Osteopathic Manual Therapy 5 (OSTP3005), and Osteopathic Practice in Musculoskeletal and Occupational Rehabilitation (OSTP3004), refine therapeutic expertise. The program culminates with Health Promotion and Project (PBHL3005), where students apply research and leadership skills to real-world health challenges, preparing them for professional osteopathic practice.
