COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Biomedical Science provides a structured and comprehensive pathway for students seeking careers in health, research, and related scientific fields. The first year of the program focuses on foundational knowledge in medical and biological sciences, including anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, cells and molecules, and the application of evidence-based practice. Students develop essential analytical and research skills through units in statistics and scientific reasoning, which prepare them for higher-level study and professional practice. In the second year, the curriculum builds on this foundation with advanced study in organic chemistry, microbiology, molecular genetics, human pathophysiology, histopathology, cytopathology, haematology, and clinical biochemistry. Students also engage in professional experience in biomedical settings, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical laboratory and clinical environments. The third year offers two pathways: the Nutrition pathway and the Research pathway. The Nutrition pathway emphasizes nutritional medicine, epidemiology, immunology, botanical medicine, clinical microbiology, pharmacology, and scientific data management. This pathway equips students to understand the biochemical, molecular, and physiological basis of nutrition and its role in health and disease. The Research pathway focuses on epidemiology, research design, literature review, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, and data analysis, providing students with the skills needed to conduct independent scientific investigations. Across both pathways, Indigenous health perspectives are embedded to foster culturally competent practice. Throughout the degree, students develop critical thinking, analytical problem-solving, laboratory skills, and professional competency, ensuring they are prepared for careers in biomedical research, healthcare, nutrition, and allied health sectors. By combining rigorous scientific education with practical experience and professional engagement, graduates are well-positioned to pursue advanced studies, research opportunities, or employment in diverse health and science-related fields.
