COURSE CURRICULUM

This postgraduate program in translating and interpreting is designed to equip students with the advanced theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional expertise required for careers in translation and interpretation. In the first year, students undertake a series of compulsory onboarding modules to establish a strong foundation in the field. Core courses include Theoretical Bases of Translating and Interpreting, Discourse Studies for Translators and Interpreters, and Ethics and Professional Issues, which provide an understanding of the principles, linguistic frameworks, and ethical responsibilities essential to professional practice. Students also gain hands-on experience through certification practice courses, choosing between Interpreting Certification Practice 1 or Translation Certification Practice, allowing them to develop practical proficiency and confidence in applying their skills to real-world contexts. Additionally, students select Program Option courses to further broaden their expertise, tailoring their learning to specific professional interests or emerging industry needs.In the second year, the program builds on this foundation with advanced courses that foster critical thinking, applied research, and professional project management. Advanced Discourse Studies deepens students’ understanding of complex linguistic and cultural interactions, preparing them to handle nuanced communication challenges in professional environments. The Extended Professional Project provides an opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, enabling students to design and complete a substantial project that reflects contemporary issues and demands within the translation and interpreting industry.Overall, the program emphasizes a balance of theory, applied practice, and professional development, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to meet the high standards expected in global language services.
