COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Technology (Fashion and Textiles) by Research at RMIT is a research-intensive postgraduate degree that combines foundational research training with a substantial supervised thesis. At the commencement of the program, students must complete one compulsory research preparation course before their confirmation of candidature milestone, choosing either “Doing Research for Design and Social Context” or “Doing Research for Engineering and Computing,” depending on the nature of their research focus. In consultation with their supervisory team, students may also undertake one additional research-focused subject during their candidature to strengthen their methodological and theoretical knowledge. Available options include Research for Impact in Design and Social Context, Creative Practice Research, Qualitative Research Methods, Quantitative Research Techniques, and Critical and Social Theory. Students may further broaden their expertise through up to 12 credit points of approved university research electives aligned with their research area. The major component of the degree is the Masters Research thesis, which is completed through staged enrolment in 12, 24, 36, or 48 credit point research units at the Brunswick Campus. This flexible structure allows candidates to progressively develop and complete an original research project under expert supervision. Throughout the program, students build advanced analytical, technical, and research skills while contributing new knowledge to fashion, textiles, materials innovation, and related industry or academic fields.
