COURSE CURRICULUM

Year One of the Project Management program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in core project management concepts and techniques, ensuring they develop the skills necessary to plan, execute, and evaluate projects effectively. During the first year, students complete 96 credit points across a range of compulsory courses, beginning with an introduction to project management that covers fundamental principles, project lifecycles, and organizational contexts. They then explore project management techniques and project design for quality, gaining insight into planning, scheduling, and quality assurance practices. Courses on managing project teams and evaluating and managing project risk build students’ abilities to lead diverse teams, identify potential challenges, and implement mitigation strategies. Additional courses focus on project financial management and appraisal, equipping students with skills to develop budgets, monitor costs, and assess project viability. Performance management foundations and the management of technology provide essential knowledge for optimizing team performance and leveraging technological tools in project settings. In Year Two, students advance their expertise through courses such as research design and methods, project procurement and ethics, project management leadership, and international engineering management, which emphasize applying theory to complex, real-world scenarios. Students also engage in research investigations or industry project investigations to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills within professional contexts. Elective options, including multidisciplinary projects, sustainable engineering systems, strategic project delivery, advanced project risk management, and agile project management, allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. Opportunities for practical application, such as the Developing Professional Expertise course, provide hands-on experience within industry settings, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to lead projects across sectors including construction, engineering, government, and technology, making them highly sought-after professionals in the global project management field.
