COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Laboratory Medicine is a comprehensive 192-credit-point program designed to equip graduates of general or biomedical sciences with the skills and knowledge required for careers in diagnostic pathology and medical research. In the first stage of the program, students select and complete five foundational courses from options such as Histology, Microbiology, Diagnostic Microbiology, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Biochemistry, Anatomical Pathology, Haematology and Transfusion Science, Point of Care Patient Testing, Advanced Medical Informatics and Laboratory Management, Molecular Genetics and Diagnostics, and Integrative Pathology. These courses provide essential laboratory techniques, analytical skills, and an understanding of cellular, molecular, and clinical pathology.Students then complete 48 credit points from advanced courses, including Advanced Clinical Biochemistry, Advanced Haematology, Advanced Transfusion and Transplantation Science, Advanced Anatomical Pathology, Viruses and Infections, and Medical Microbiology. These courses emphasize specialized laboratory procedures, diagnostic interpretation, and applied clinical knowledge. Additionally, all students complete two core courses, Advanced Laboratory Medicine and Biostatistics, which focus on laboratory leadership, data analysis, and research methodology.In the final stage, students choose between a 48-credit-point Research Project or a Professional Practice in Laboratory Medicine course. This capstone experience allows students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical or research contexts, developing professional competencies, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking skills. Overall, the program integrates foundational science, advanced laboratory techniques, research methodology, and professional practice to prepare graduates for successful careers in diagnostic pathology, clinical laboratories, and medical research environments.
