COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Justice program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of criminology, law, policy, and justice systems, preparing graduates for careers in policing, corrections, courts, and related fields. In the first year, students complete seven core courses totaling 84 credit points, including Criminal Justice Systems, Introduction to Criminology, Law and Justice Policy, Sex, Gender and Justice, Applied Research in Criminological Settings, Policy Making and Indigenous Peoples, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. These courses build a strong foundation in the structure and function of justice systems, research methods, policy analysis, and social dimensions of crime and justice. Additionally, students select one Justice Studies Option course or an alternative approved by the Program Manager, allowing for specialization according to individual interests and career goals.In the second year, students focus on advanced topics in policy and criminology through four core courses: Policy Making, Critical Criminology, Policy Design and Implementation, and Current Issues in Criminology, totaling 48 credit points. These courses develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of contemporary justice challenges, policy development processes, and innovative approaches to crime prevention and management. Across both years, the program combines theoretical knowledge with applied learning, research, and practical insights, equipping graduates with the skills necessary to contribute effectively to the justice sector. By completing this program, students enhance their professional capabilities and career opportunities in areas such as criminology, management, compliance, investigation, governance, and human security.
