COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Global Studies program is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in global governance, development, sustainability, and security, preparing graduates for leadership roles in international organizations, NGOs, government, and research sectors. In the first year, students complete 48 credit points of core courses including Global Governance, Global Development, Sustainability, Governance and Social Change, and Global Security, providing a strong foundation in the political, social, and environmental dimensions of global issues. Students also complete 24 credit points from a Minor of their choice and an additional 24 credit points from Program Options or other Minors, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific areas of professional or academic interest.In the second year, students undertake 24 credit points in Global Studies Research, developing advanced research skills, critical analysis, and the ability to design and conduct independent research projects on complex global challenges. They also complete the remaining 24 credit points from the Minor chosen in Year One, further deepening their specialized knowledge. Additionally, students select 48 credit points from Program Options or other Minors, providing flexibility to expand interdisciplinary expertise. For example, students who select the Development Minor complete 48 credit points from courses such as Program Design and Participation, International Project Management: Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Globally Ethical Decision Making, Gender in a Global Context, Global Civil Society, NGOs and Sustainable Development, Children in Development and Humanitarian Practice, Intercultural Knowledges and Practices, Policy Making and Indigenous Peoples, and Emerging Models of Regenerative Economies.Overall, the program balances core knowledge, specialized study, and research skills, equipping graduates with the analytical, strategic, and practical capabilities required to address global challenges and contribute effectively to sustainable development, policy-making, and international governance initiatives.
