COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Fine Art program is designed to develop advanced artistic skills, critical thinking, and professional practice for emerging and established artists. In the first year, students complete a series of compulsory onboarding modules to establish foundational studio and research skills. They undertake Fine Art Studio 1 and Fine Art Studio 2, each worth 24 credit points, alongside Critical Frameworks A and Strategies for Creative Research, each worth 12 credit points. These courses provide students with practical studio experience, theoretical understanding, and research strategies necessary to explore creative ideas in depth. In addition, students complete 24 credit points from the 'Making Art Public' minor or select courses from the Program Option List, allowing them to tailor their studies to individual interests and develop an understanding of public engagement with art.In the second year, the program focuses on advanced studio practice, critical analysis, and professional development. Students complete Fine Art Studio 3 and Fine Art Studio 4, each 24 credit points, which encourage experimentation, technical mastery, and the development of a cohesive artistic practice. Complementing this studio work, they undertake Language of Creative Practice and Professional Creative Practice, each 12 credit points, which emphasize conceptual articulation, professional skills, and preparation for careers in the contemporary art world. Across both years, the curriculum combines hands-on studio experience, critical inquiry, and professional practice, equipping graduates with the creative, analytical, and professional capabilities needed to pursue careers as practicing artists, curators, educators, or arts managers in national and international contexts.
