COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering (Sustainable Energy) program is designed to prepare students for leadership roles in the transition toward cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy systems. The program provides a comprehensive foundation in renewable energy technologies, energy management, and sustainable design principles. In the first year, students must complete 72 credit points of core courses and 24 credit points of electives. Core subjects include Energy Efficiency and Demand Management, The Economic, Social and Environmental Context for Sustainable Energy, Sustainable Energy Systems and Design, Photovoltaic Systems, Electrical Energy Storage Systems, and Sustainable Thermal Systems. These courses equip students with an understanding of how to design, optimize, and manage modern energy systems that reduce environmental impact and promote efficiency. Students can also choose from electives such as Sustainable Energy Fundamentals, Renewable and Solar Fuels, Wind and Hydro Power, or Professional Experience Postgraduate to gain specialized knowledge or practical industry experience.In the second year, students complete 36 credit points from a range of advanced and interdisciplinary subjects not previously taken, such as Building Quality Organisations and Leadership, Sustainable Engineering Systems and Environment, Vehicle Power-Train Technologies, Management of Automotive Design and Development, Environmental Policy and Governance, and Power System Analysis and Control. They also undertake Research Methods in Engineering, which develops essential research and analytical skills needed for their final research project. The program culminates in a major research component worth 48 credit points, where students may either complete a full Masters Research Project or divide it into two parts. This capstone project enables students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world sustainable energy challenges through independent investigation and practical application. Overall, the degree provides graduates with the technical, managerial, and research expertise required to drive innovation in renewable energy and sustainability sectors globally.
