COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering (International Automotive Engineering) at RMIT is a two-year postgraduate program that combines advanced technical learning with applied research to prepare students for leadership roles in the global automotive industry. In the first year, students complete 96 credit points of core coursework covering key areas such as management of automotive design and development, automotive manufacturing engineering processes, computational engineering for automobile applications, vehicle noise and vibration harshness, automotive materials, automotive systems and control, advanced computer-aided engineering (CAE) applications, and vehicle powertrain technologies. These subjects build a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of modern automotive engineering. In the second year, students complete 24 credit points of compulsory study, including research methods in engineering and advanced vehicle dynamics. They then select a further 24 credit points from option courses such as automotive electronics, sustainable engineering systems, industry 4.0 technologies, computer integrated manufacturing, logistics engineering, system simulation, and international industry experience, allowing for specialisation and industry exposure. The program concludes with a 48-credit-point Masters Research Project, completed either as a single thesis or in two stages. Overall, the degree develops advanced skills in automotive systems, design, manufacturing, sustainability, and research, preparing graduates for careers in automotive design, manufacturing, consulting, and global engineering industries.
