COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Engineering (Electrical and Power Engineering) program at RMIT is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in modern power and electrical systems. In the first year, students complete 60 credit points of core courses that cover key areas such as renewable electrical energy systems, protection and high voltage engineering, electrical energy conversion, advanced control systems, and research methods in engineering. These foundational courses ensure students gain both theoretical understanding and practical insight into critical power engineering technologies. Additionally, students complete 36 credit points from a wide selection of elective courses, allowing them to specialise in areas such as digital signal processing, optical fibre systems, satellite communications, real-time systems, audio engineering, semiconductor devices, sensors and measurement technologies, network engineering, power electronic converters, smart grids, and industrial automation. This flexible structure enables students to tailor their learning to their career goals and interests while maintaining a strong core of power engineering knowledge. In the second year, students focus on research and advanced technical specialisations. They complete 48 credit points through a Masters Research Project, which can be undertaken as a single 48-credit project or divided into two 24-credit parts. Alongside the research project, students select an additional 48 credit points from courses not previously completed in areas such as advanced power systems, smart grids, industrial automation, real-time estimation and control, power electronic converters, intelligent systems, and professional experience postgraduate. This combination of research and technical electives ensures graduates are well-prepared to address complex challenges in the power engineering industry.Graduates of this program are equipped for careers in utilities, renewable energy companies, industrial automation, consultancy services, and infrastructure projects. They gain not only technical expertise but also professional skills in communication, teamwork, and project management, positioning them as highly capable engineers ready to contribute to the design, implementation, and management of modern electrical power systems.
