COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Diploma of Arts Management at RMIT University is designed to develop advanced skills and knowledge for those seeking leadership roles in the creative industries. This program equips students with the expertise required to manage arts and cultural projects, navigate complex policy environments, and engage with diverse communities, both locally and globally. The curriculum blends theoretical understanding with practical application, allowing students to explore the operational, strategic, and ethical dimensions of arts management. Students graduate with the ability to lead cultural organisations, implement creative projects, and contribute to the sustainability and growth of the arts sector.In the core component of the program, students complete forty-eight credit points through courses such as Principles of Arts Management and Arts Management Project 1. These courses introduce the foundational concepts of management within arts contexts, including leadership strategies, organisational planning, and project implementation. Students develop a critical understanding of how arts organisations operate and gain practical experience managing real-world projects, preparing them for higher-level responsibilities in cultural and creative institutions.In addition to the core, students select one hundred and forty-four credit points from a wide range of option courses, allowing for customised study paths aligned with professional goals. Options include Arts Management Project 2, Community Arts Management, Cultural Policy and Practice, and Gallery and Museum Management, among others. Students may also engage with intensive global projects, digital imaging strategies, internships, and fieldwork, which provide practical exposure to contemporary creative practices. Other electives, such as Working in First Peoples contexts and Practicing on Country / with Country, encourage students to develop culturally responsive approaches to creative production and management. The combination of rigorous coursework, experiential learning, and strategic electives ensures that graduates emerge as highly skilled professionals, capable of leading innovation, fostering community engagement, and contributing meaningfully to the dynamic and evolving arts sector.
