COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Animation, Games and Interactivity at RMIT is a two-year postgraduate program structured around studio-based learning, research, and professional practice in animation, game design, and interactive media. In the first year, students complete six core courses that establish foundational and advanced creative skills, including Character, Place and Simulation, Professional Preproduction, Animated Narratives, and Advanced Play Design. A major focus of the first year is the Animation, Games and Interactivity Studio sequence (Studio 1 and Studio 2), which provides intensive, hands-on experience in developing original creative projects. In the second year, students progress to more advanced study and research-oriented work, beginning with Research Methods for Design and Digital Media and theoretical exploration through The Illusion of Life. They continue with Animation, Games and Interactivity Studio 3, where they refine their creative direction and produce high-level studio outcomes. Students also complete an Industry Portfolio to demonstrate professional readiness and undertake a substantial Professional Research Project in their specialisation. In addition, they select one postgraduate elective to support their individual interests. Throughout the program, students develop strong creative, technical, and conceptual abilities while building a professional portfolio. Graduates are prepared for careers in animation studios, game development, interactive media production, and related creative industries, with a strong foundation in both practice and research.
