COURSE CURRICULUM

The Juris Doctor at RMIT is a structured postgraduate law program designed to develop comprehensive legal knowledge and practical skills across three years of study. In the first year, students complete foundational subjects including Introduction to the Australian Legal System and Legal Methods, along with core areas such as Contract Law, Torts, and Criminal Law. They also study Jurisprudence, Advanced Contract Law, and Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, supported by approved elective law options. In the second year, the curriculum expands into broader legal fields including Administrative Law, Australian Property Law, Australian Company Law, and International Law, alongside advanced subjects such as Federal and State Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, and Law and Technology, with further elective choices from approved law options. In the third year, students focus on specialised and applied legal studies including Equity and Trusts, Evidence, and Innovative Justice, while also completing additional law electives and a compulsory capstone subject, Legal Practice Management and Professional Conduct. Across the program, students progressively build skills in legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, case analysis, and professional legal practice. The degree integrates theoretical learning with practical applications such as negotiation and dispute resolution, preparing graduates for real-world legal environments. Upon completion, students are equipped with the knowledge, analytical ability, and professional competence required for entry into legal practice and careers within the justice system.
