COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Environment and Society at RMIT requires the completion of 288 credit points and is structured to provide a strong interdisciplinary understanding of environmental, social, and sustainability challenges. In Year One, students complete four first-year block courses (48 credit points) along with four core courses (48 credit points), establishing foundational knowledge in environmental systems, society, and sustainability concepts. In Year Two, students complete two core courses (24 credit points), two core option courses, and an additional 48 credit points from their chosen combination, allowing them to begin shaping their area of specialisation. In Year Three, students complete three core courses (48 credit points) and a further 48 credit points based on their selected study pathway. The program is designed to offer flexibility through different combination options that allow students to tailor their learning. Students may choose to complete one Sustainability and Society minor along with one interdisciplinary minor, or combine a Sustainability and Society minor with 48 credit points of program option courses or university electives. Alternatively, students may choose to complete two Sustainability and Society minors for deeper specialisation in sustainability-focused study. This structure ensures students develop a broad and critical understanding of environmental issues, social systems, and sustainability practices. Overall, the degree prepares graduates to evaluate environmental challenges and contribute to sustainable solutions in policy, community development, environmental planning, and related professional fields.
