COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science program is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in scientific principles, practical skills, and specialized knowledge over three years. In the first year, students complete a series of compulsory onboarding modules along with eight core courses totaling 96 credit points. These courses include Data for a Scientific World (ONPS2700), The World of Life Sciences (ONPS2699), Physical Sciences in Action (ONPS2701), A Calculus Toolbox for Scientists (MATH2469), Mechanics and Thermodynamics (PHYS1046), Introduction to Electromagnetism and Optics (PHYS2189), Space Exploration (PHYS2182), and Vectors and Calculus (MATH1143 or MATH1144), delivered across City and Bundoora campuses. This first-year curriculum ensures that students develop a solid understanding of foundational concepts in life sciences, physics, mathematics, and scientific analysis. In the second year, students complete 60 credit points of core courses, including Materials Physics (PHYS2179), Rocket Science (PHYS2183), Satellites and Space Debris (GEOM2160), Geodesy (GEOM2175), and Programming Fundamentals for Scientists (COSC2676). In addition, students choose 12 credit points from the Science Options list and 24 credit points from either a chosen minor or additional Science Options courses. This structure allows students to deepen their knowledge in specialized areas of interest while developing practical and computational skills relevant to modern scientific practice. In the third year, students undertake 60 credit points of advanced courses, including Microgravity Science (PHYS2184), Classical and Quantum Mechanics (PHYS2178), Electromagnetism (PHYS2181), Astrophysics and Cosmology (PHYS2067), and Applied Science Project 1 (ONPS2186), which emphasizes hands-on research and project work. Students also complete 12 credit points from either Applied Science Project 2 (ONPS2668) or Science Work Experience 1 (ONPS2543), providing practical exposure to professional scientific environments. Across the three years, the program equips students with a comprehensive understanding of scientific principles, analytical and research skills, and the ability to apply knowledge in both academic and professional settings.
